2011 Business Recognition

Global Surveillance

Global Surveillance - Your Security. Your Peace of Mind.

Global Surveillance started as a one-man show when Preston Colston decided to take his experience in the security industry and transition to a small business. In 2009, with the addition of some new owners/partners, they started out to make a lifelong, dependable company. They wanted something that would not only provide great quality security integration for customers, but would also be a growing business with dependable income for them and others.

Secret to Success

"A successful business just doesn’t happen overnight. It will continually need work. The work and building of a business needs to be done as a team. The most important thing is finding the right people for that team."

The company reached their goal, becoming a leading supplier of high-end PC and embedded digital video recorders, providing both fixed and mobile solutions. They handle everything from product sales to complex solutions and take on projects from the hardware and software design/consulting phase, to system architecture and implementation.

Through the transition of being the one-man show to a growing multi-state business they learned and grew a lot. They feel they have worked through a lot of the growing pains and are headed in the right direction. The Kaysville Small Business Development Center (SBDC) encouraged that growth with counseling on finance and business expansion, as well as providing business contacts for other issues. With the support and positive feedback from their financial consultants, the Colstons look forward for what the future has to bring.

"The SBDC has been great to work with. We got counseling on business finance, assistance in creating financial projections and consulting on how to prepare for growth. They were really flexible and sincere in getting us the best answers and support we needed. They also had great contacts for us when we ran into something they couldn’t help with."

The Utah SBDC network is comprised of eleven regional centers hosted by Utah colleges and universities. The centers serve entrepreneurs and small businesses across the state. The centers are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
